6 Super Schwingin' Things

April 12, 2018

Things 1: I just discovered the website kveller.com and I think it is great! They wrote a blog post reviewing five books even busy moms should read, and Mothers of Sparta made the list. In fact, the author, Jordana Horn, said my book was one of the best books she has ever read. This kind of feedback means a lot to people who sit alone in a room working on projects for years at a time. Super sweet. Please check them out! The other books she mentioned look wonderful and I must buy, and also...Jordana Horn is a good writer and the blog post is a great read!

Things 2:  Sliver of Stone Magazine, a really cool online literary magazine, did a review of Mothers of Sparta, and published an accompanying interview with the author. That would be me. I like interviews because I get to talk about myself, and I find myself pretty interesting. Big surprise, there. But seriously, this is a good review, not just because it is a positive review of my own book, but because the review is written so dang well. The author, Betty Jo Buro is a fantastic writer. Here is the link to the Sliver of Stone review and interview.

And here is a gratuitous picture of me at the beach with my book. Why did I bring Mothers of Sparta to the beach? You're supposed to bring a book to the beach.

Thing 3: Operation Awesome published an interview with me last week. Please check them out and check out the interview here.  I'm all like:

Thing 4: I will be speaking on the Memoir Panel at the BookFest St. Louis on September 22, 2018. This is thrilling for a few reasons. First: I've always want to spend time in St. Louis. Second, I will be on the panel with Tessa Fontaine (The Electric Woman).  Third, I love talking about writing. Stay tuned for all that. Here's a pic of something you can find in St. Louis. It's called gooey butter cake. Say no more. I'll be there.

Thing 5: I will be doing two writers conferences in Florida later this year, and at the beginning of 2019: The Florida Literary Arts Coalition, and Eckerd College's Writers in Paradise. I will be doing craft talks, so stay tuned for that, and please know I got so excited that I had to take the forklift for a spin. If you've never operated a forklift, you should. It's more fun than you'd think.

That's it for now, except...oh!  I finished another book and just sent it to my agent, so it feels I'm expecting right now. Stay tuned to find out if we are having a boy or a girl novel. Thanks to all my new subscribers!
